Site Developments

After being delayed by yet another excellent Summer season, that continued right through Winter and Spring......, we are pleased to update our venture into cyberspace. To the hundreds of people who have watched our "development " over the last few years, we thank you for your patience, and trust you will find the wait worth while !

This site will be under continual development as we add or modify important links or new information about Tasmania and the opportunities available to those planning to visit our state. It could could take a decade or two to cover the basics, so keep coming back!

We will be regularly adding pages to the Tips & Techniques section which provides information both specific to Tasmanian Bushwalking and applicable to other wilderness areas around the world. We refer to these pages repeatedly throughout the site, so Please read these notes to ensure that you avoid common mistakes, and help protect our unique environment for the thousands that will follow you to our shores.

As before Under the link "About Tasmania", we will be adding a series of pages detailing specific topics of interest to Backpackers visiting our state. The first is already there, covering important information about travel times and distances between various locations in our state. Please read this section as it highlights one of the most common and often dangerous misconceptions about Tasmania in that, because we're a small state, it doesn't take long to get from one place to another", WRONG! Find out why....

With the completion of summaries for all the existing National Parks in Tasmania, we will now begin to developed extended guides for each of these areas including more detailed maps and notes on trails, the environment and the local fauna and flora. The first instalment of the most famous Tasmanian walking trail, "The Overland Track" is already available and may be accessed via the bushwalking guide or the Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park Summaries. The remainder of this page is under development and should be available in the next week or so. The Frenchmans Cap trail will follow shortly!

Keep an eye on the useful links as well. Like we said, this site like many others, it's continually developing!
