Our Background !

Cathy & JoHi!   I’m Cathy - and that’s Jo the Cockatoo sitting on my shoulder. I love to share my wealth of knowledge from a lifetime in this beautiful paradise island. I can help you with information on anything from bus timetables to the weather in the mountains, where to find wombats, fairy wrens or penguins, where to go caving or kayaking, the way to the bank or the nearest pub ………and if I don’t know something, I know who to ask to find out for you! My store of useful information  and contacts is almost as legendary as my supply of emergency repair bits & pieces…… for packs, tents, shoes, jeans, knees, hangovers……… I want you to have loads of fun while you are here ( but be safe ) and to leave with a smile on your face and warm memories in your heart….to love Tasmania as much as I do!

ODE TO "THE BACKPACKERS BARN"

Carl and Cathy from the "Backpackers Barn",
are a great couple, to meet for a yarn.

Should you need some warm gear, to go on a hike,
some maps, or some boots, or a light for the night,
or, --maybe you just need to hire a bike.
Perhaps a new mantle, some fuel, or some socks,
they're located in Edward street, amongst other shops.

The service is terrific, the advice very sound,
and if you want to survive --- just ask,
"Is Carl around?"
He's lofty and loud, in skills he abounds,
sharp as a tack, his resources will astound.

Now Cathy’s more quiet --a purposeful soul,
at the "Backpackers Barn, "she plays a big role.
Her warmth is a talent, it comes from the heart.
It's more than a gift, it's really an art.

Hello, -- is such a simple word,
but from Jo' it's quite a treat.
Jo's the female cocky whom all like to meet.
She rules the roost at the "Backpackers Barn",
and seems rebuffed if you don’t share with her a scratch and a yarn.

So when your next in Devonport call on Carl and Cathy,
at the "Backpackers Barn." they love to be met.
And, if you’re from overseas --don't worry,
you can still chat to them, via the net.
